About the event
A great workshop taught at Mapi Créations where we explore how to make singles, yarns that make light and stunning fabrics but require disctinct techniques to spin. The class lasts all day (6 hours), located at Montebello in Quebec (near Saint-André-Avellin) Possibility to take a half day class (am or pm), make the request at info@laimelaine.com You will have access to an exclusive mini market with L'aime Laine and Mapi Créations throughout the day. The class includes all fibers required for learning as well as a detailed document written by Alexina Hicks.
This is not a full beginner class. It is required you know how to start spinning on your wheel and know how to continuously draft out while spinning on your wheel. It is not a class to learn how to spin. Respecting this requirement will permit maximisin learning time to explore the class's objectives.
Schedule
Morning (9h00 to noon):
The singles, basics
Learn to understand your own natural spinning tendencies, analyze and understand your wheel, master your wheel to diversify your movements - each student will have one-on-one time with Alexina.
Prensenting the singles, learn the esssential techniques to create it and adapt your spinning for it.
Lunch Break (12h00 to 13h30). Bring your lunch and we'll all eat on lcoation.
Afternoon (13h30 à 16h30):
The universal singles, traditional lopis, lopi imitations while using other fiber blends.
How to make lopi yarns; their compositions, the fiber preparations necessary and how to spin.
How to make other types of singles depending on their fiber composition and the desired result.
The techniques for finishing - practiced in class.
Following a perfected pedagogical approach, the class will be given in both French and English. Here's an example of the approach: Alexina will take time to explain specific techniques to one linguistic group while the other group spins and applies their assigned exercises (which allows them to relax and not feel observed). We then switch the groups and so on. The objective is to maximise learning time and its quality while giving the opportunity to the handspinning community to get to know each other, whatever their native language may be. Materials required
Your wheel with bobins (espinners are welcome)
A Niddy-Noddy
Your various pulleys
Bring your favourite spinning chair for comfort if possible
